Several years ago Jon Fitch vs. Yushin Okami could have been a "super" fight when both fighters competed under the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) umbrella, pitting elite fighters in two different weight classes against each other with future title aspirations on the line.

On Oct. 17, 2015, the mixed martial arts (MMA) veterans will collide at Welterweight, headlining World Series of Fighting (WSOF) 24, which will take place at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Conn., live on NBCSN.

Fitch (26-7-1, 1 NC) is looking to rebound following a devastating first round submission by Rousimar Palhares in his quest to become WSOF 170-pound champion. The quick tap snapped a two-fight win streak.

Okami (30-9), a career Middleweight who was often considered big for the division, will attempt to shed 15 pounds after losing to David Branch in a 185-pound title match. Okami was the winner four out of his previous five fights before the technical knockout loss.

WSOF President Ray Sefo offered the following statement on the match up:

"We are excited to return to Foxwoods Resort Casino and the state of Connecticut, where we showcased our brand of world championship MMA action in front of a highly passionate audience earlier this year. Beginning with Jon Fitch and Yushin Okami, two of the best 170-pound athletes in our entire sport, we are assembling another card loaded with some of the top superstars and emerging stars in MMA, and we look forward to giving fans another memorable night of fights."

WSOF 24 will feature a championship co-main event between Heavyweight champion Blagoy Ivanov (12-1) against Derek Mehmen (19-6), as well as the return of Lightweight Nick Newell (12-1) against an opponent to be named at a later date.
