Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) was interested in having Alistair Overeem throw hands at the upcoming UFC 191 pay-per-view (PPV) event (see the current fight card here), which takes place on Sept. 5, 2015 inside MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Apparently, the feeling wasn't mutual.
"Demolition Man" has instead extended his fuse until at least December, according to UFC Tonight, as he wants to be the first fighter to welcome Junior dos Santos back to the Octagon (which may have led to this). "Cigano" has been riding the pine for the past seven months due to a hand injury.
Can't say we didn't see this one coming.
Overeem and Dos Santos have beef dating back to 2012, when they were expected to bang in "Sin City," but "The Reem" failed a surprise drug test and spent the rest of the year on the sidelines. The Brazilian went on to lose his title but outside of a pair of losses to Cain Velasquez, remains perfect under the UFC banner.
Any fight fans out there still interested in watching this one go down?
