UFC 191: Frank Mir vs. Andrei Arlovski possible for Sept. 5 in Las Vegas

Jake Roth-USA TODAY Sports

Better late than never!

Nearly a decade after Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) first tried to put this heavyweight showdown together, Frank Mir and Andrei Arlovski have once again been asked to square off, this time at the UFC 191 pay-per-view (PPV) event, which takes place on Sept. 5, 2015 inside MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

That's according to a report from UFC Tonight, which indicates that negotiations are underway, though bout agreements have yet to be signed. That said, let's hope Mir stays away from his motorcycle until October.

Even without his two-wheeler, Mir (18-9) has still been able to race through the "Sin City" rankings after firing off back-to-back knockout victories over Antonio Silva and Todd Duffee. Those wins silenced talk about retirement, after the former heavyweight champ came up lame in four consecutive fights.

Comebacks are all the rage these days.

Just ask Arlovski (24-10, 1 NC), who not only worked his way back to the world's largest mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion in early 2014, but also made the most of his opportunity by stringing together three straight wins over Brendan Schaub, Antonio Silva, and Travis Browne.

One more and he's likely to earn a title shot.

UFC 191 features the highly-anticipated rematch between current flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson and the man who took him the distance back at UFC on FOX 6, John Dodson. In the PPV co-main event, Anthony Johnson returns to the Octagon to "Rumble" with British striker Jimi Manuwa.
