What a shot!
After a two-year sabbatical, "Filthy" Tom Lawlor returned to the Octagon on Saturday night (July 25, 2015) with a bang, knocking out rising prospect Gian Villante in their "Prelims" main event bout on FOX with a thunderous right hand just 27 seconds into the second round.
Check out the ferocious haymaker that sent the United Center crowd in Chicago, Ill., into a frenzy in the highlight above.
Prior to knockout, Lawlor was getting styled on by Villante, and seemed well on his way to a decision loss.
A massive underdog coming in, The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) veteran was moving up to Light Heavyweight to take on Chris Weidman's No. 1 training partner in a fight that seemed tailor-made for Villante to get a big name victory.
"Filthy" obviously had his own plans.
As if the win wasn't sweet enough, Lawlor's right hand earned him an extra $50,000 with the "Performance of the Night" bonus.
In his post-fight interview, Lawlor told Joe Rogan he is "getting too old" to cut to 185 pounds and he is hoping to make a run up the 205-pound division ladder.
Anyone interested in seeing Lawlor throw down with former UFC champion Quinton "Rampage" Jackson next?
