Joe Lauzon has been largely inconsistent in his last several fights, but with 13 career post-fight bonuses under his belt, he still remains a very exciting fighter in Ultimate Fighting Championship's (UFC) Lightweight division.
At UFC on FOX 16 tonight (Sat., July 25, 2015) "J-Lau" proved it once again, showcasing both his striking and grappling.
Lauzon got back into the win column with a technical knockout win over Takanori Gomi inside United Center in Chicago, Ill., the Massachusetts native's twelfth career victory inside the Octagon.
The 11-year veteran scored a takedown at around the three-minute mark of the first round and immediately took Gomi's back. From there, "J-Lau" flattened out "Fireball Kid" and began wailing away with big punches. Lauzon got up off of Gomi before referee Herb Dean officially waved the contest off. But, moments later, Dean called it a day.
The official stoppage came at 2:37 of round one.
An impressive victory for Lauzon, 31, who was defeated by Al Iaquinta by technical knockout in his previous fight. As for Gomi, the 36-year-old Japanese fighter has now lost two in a row and falls to 35-11 (1) overall. His UFC record is a disappointing 4-6.
