UFC welterweight flunks drug test, benched one year for testosterone metabolites

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has nabbed another one ... and we haven't even gotten to the new drug testing policy from United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA).

"Dodger" was unable to dodge a post-fight drug test at UFC 188, which took place last month in Mexico City. The up-and-coming welterweight was felled by the same round of drug tests that also claimed top lightweight contender Gilbert Melendez (more on that here).

"UFC has a strict, consistent policy against the use of any illegal and/or performance enhancing drugs, stimulants or masking agents by our athletes," the promotion said in a prepared statement. "As a result of the positive test, Montano has accepted a one-year suspension, effective from the date of the bout, for violating the UFC Fighter Conduct Policy and Promotional Agreement with Zuffa, LLC."

Montano, 30, tested positive for "exogenous origin of testosterone metabolites," but that won't affect the result of his fight against Cathal Pendred, a unanimous decision loss on the FOX Sports 1 "Prelims" (details), one that ran his MMA record to 15-2.
