Why It Matters: There are a few points of intrigue on this card including up-and-comers trying to make a name for themselves, while veteran perennial contenders continue to make another push toward the top of the rankings. Most importantly, though, the No. 9 ranked middleweight Bisping attempts to stave off the resurgent Brazilian Leites from challenging for the belt for the second time in his career. At 36 years old, "The Count" is looking to make the most of his Octagon time at this point in time and rack up back-to-back wins for the first time since 2011.
What's Hot: The aforementioned headliner between the Brit and the Nova Uniao representative Leites takes top billing and for good reason: they are two of the most successful middleweight fighters on the planet and one of them has yet to challenge for a title; that being Bisping. Also on the main card, Joseph Duffy vs. Ivan Jorge, is a tale of two burgeoning lightweight prospects looking to make their mark in a crowded 155-pound division.
What's Not: Fight fans on the west coast, who were just treated to an epic lineup right in their backyard in San Diego, Calif., will likely just be rising in the early morning hours this Saturday when the UFC Fight Night 72 card is set to kick off on FOX Sports 1. For those knuckleheads out having a good time Friday night -- or those trying to get a good night sleep -- it might be difficult to witness the entirety of the festivities taking place in Scotland. However, catching the co-main event and onward seems reasonable.
How to Watch: UFC Fight Night 72's main card does not begin until 1 p.m. ET on Fox Sports 1, but "Prelims" bouts are scheduled to start at 10 a.m. ET on the UFC paid subscription service Fight Pass and then transfer over to FOX Sports 1 at 11 a.m. ET for four more "Prelims" bouts. Original Card vs. Actual Card
The entire UFC Fight Night 72 card, from top to bottom, has taken a hit. Various fighters, both on the main card and on the "Prelims," have either pulled out because of injury or undisclosed reasons. Most notably, in the women's strawweight division, Scotland's own Joanne Calderwood was expected to face Bec Rawlings, but the Australian pulled out of their fight little more than one week before it was scheduled to go down.
Cortney Casey will take her place against Calderwood. Casey has earned first-round stoppages in each of her three straight wins.
In addition, fighters like Brimage, Lebout and Omielanczuk have all received brand new opponents in a less than desirable timeframe to prepare. The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 8 veteran Brimage is tasked with eliminating Octagon newcomer Jimmie Rivera, or risk going down 1-4 in his last five outings.
The Polish submission machine Omielanczuk faces De La Rocha; also a promotional newcomer with three finishes in three professionakl outings. French grappler Lebout draws the undefeated Packalen.
