So close, yet so far.
Former pugilist and streaking women's bantamweight contender Holly Holm went into battle against the venerable Marion Reneau at the UFC Fight Night 71 mixed martial arts (MMA) event last night (Weds., July 15, 2015.) on FOX Sports 1, which took place inside the Valley View Casino Center in San Diego, California.
A win is a win.
Prior to making her UFC debut back in February, Holm (9-0) lit up the regional circuit with her formidable boxing skills and was a long-sought after free agent. Partly because of her pugilistic skills, but mostly because women's bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey was running out of viable contenders.
That still holds true today, though it's hard to imagine the promotion rushing her into a "Rowdy" title fight -- if Rousey can emerge victorious at UFC 190 -- based on a pair of decision wins under the ZUFFA banner. Then again, it probably beats a third go-round against Miesha Tate.
