Holly Holm remains undefeated.
"Preacher's Daughter" defeated Marion Reneau at UFC Fight Night 71 via unanimous decision at Valley View Casino Center in San Diego, Calif., tonight (Weds. July 15, 2015).
As the fight began, Holm began searching for her range with quick oblique kicks and side kicks, but really wasn't pulling the trigger. Reneau was circling, but was a touch conservative with her offense. Holm was controlling the Octagon, but neither fighter landed any significant strikes.
In the second stanza, Reneau would charge in, but was unable to land on Holm. "Preacher's Daughter" would again control the Octagon. Holm would once again attack with side kicks, but again couldn't land anything of significance. The threat of her attacks were enough to keep "Belizean Bruiser" from coming forward. Holm would land her best combination with a little more than one minute in the round, which ended with a hard kick to the body.
Reneau would clinch up and jump guard, but Holm carried her around before pushing her to the canvas.
In the final frame, Holm was able to open up a bit more with her striking. Reneau would jump guard again, and get the fight to the floor, but Holm was able to get back up to her feet. As the clappers clapped, Holm marched in on Reneau, landing a crisp combination with another solid body kick to end the fight.
It was not a decisive win by Holm, who narrowly defeated Raquel Pennington via split decision at UFC 184 in her debut with the promotion. She was expected to challenge women's bantamweight champion, Ronda Rousey, but will likely need several more victories to earn her shot at the 135-pound division title.
And most likely a better game plan.
