UFC Fight Night 71 results: Manny Gamburyan defeats resilient Scott Jorgensen via unanimous decision

Joe Maiorana-USA TODAY Sports

Scott Jorgensen returned to the Bantamweight division to battle Manny Gamburyan at UFC on FOX 71 earlier tonight (Weds. July 15, 2015) inside Valley View Casino Center in San Diego, Cali., on FOX Sports 1, but the woes will continue for him.

That's because Manny Gamburyan defeated he one-time World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) Bantamweight title contender via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27).

Jorgensen picked up "The Anvil" and dropped him to start the action, but Gamburyan immediately threatened with a guillotine choke. "Young Guns" would defend and reverse position.

Gamburyan continued to smother Jorgensen and dragged him down to the canvas. Jorgensen would make it back to his fee, but could not shake the pressure from the Armenian grappler. Jorgensen would land an inadvertent knee to the pills and referee Herb Dean would briefly stop the action.

"The Anvil" would again land a takedown, but Jorgensen scrambled out and reversed position. "Young Guns" would land a big punch on the ground and when Gamburyan rose to his feet he also landed knee. Gamburyan fired back and clipped Jorgensen with a big right hand, which rocked him. He rushed in and tried to close the show, but was unable to as Jorgensen again showed his resiliency.

Check out the exchange:

As things got under way in the second, Jorgensen would eat another groin shot that stopped the action.

"The Anvil" would attack with another guillotine, but Jorgensen deftly avoided any trouble. After a few exchanges on the feet, Gamburyan went in on a single and pushed Jorgensen against the fence. He tried in vain to get the fight back to the floor, but Jorgensen was able to stave off the takedown.

Jorgensen would land a takedown of his own, but could not hold "The Anvil" down or move to his back.

In the final round, Jorgensen picked up the pace and moved in and out with strikes and avoided getting taken down. Gamburyan connected with his best combination with about a minute and change left on the clock. Jorgensen would land one of his own afterward, and Gamburyan would push forward and move in on a double, pushing "Young Guns" against the fence. Jorgensen would move off the cage and land a knee to the body of Gamburyan as the fight ended.

Gamburyan picked up his second win in a row in the bantamweight division since moving down from featherweight at UFC 178. Meanwhile, Jorgensen has now lost four straight fights, dropping seven of his last 10.
