A firebrand of a lightweight is heading to Bellator MMA to make his promotional debut on August 28th.
Love him or hate him, longtime Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) veteran Melvin Guillard makes headlines inside the cage with his style, and outside the cage by picking fights with promoters and then being pulled from shows. He always manages to get fight fans talking.
At the Pechanga Resort and Casino in Temecula, California, he hopes they'll be talking about his lightweight fight against Bellator promotional veteran Brandon Girtz.
The 11-4 "Cold Roll" will attempt to follow up on a sensational first-minute TKO of Benny Madrid at Bellator 126. The mercurial 32-14-2 (2 NC) Guillard will simply be attempting a career reset after failing to win in seven out of his last 10 bouts.
"Since signing Melvin in May, we have been anxious to get him inside the Bellator cage," said Bellator President Scott Coker in today's release. "Brandon Girtz has performed well for us and will face his stiffest competition to date when he meets the 50-fight veteran. I'm really looking forward to the event, as well as returning to one of our favorite venues in Pechanga Resort and Casino."
Here's hoping his Bellator 141 debut goes off smoothly.
