Not only did Chad Mendes have to fight Conor McGregor with a measly two-week training camp, he also had to do it with a broken thumb, according to an X-ray from his manager, Mike Roberts of MMA Inc., who learned of the injury on Monday.
Did it affect the outcome? Impossible to say, one way or the other.
A report from MMA Fighting, however, indicates the broken thumb occurred early in the first round of the UFC 189 pay-per-view (PPV) headliner, which took place last Saturday night (July 11, 2015) inside MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Have a look:
Ouch.
Despite some early success on the ground, Mendes was finished by way of technical knockout late in the second stanza (video replay here). Not long after, the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) suspended him for six months for -- you guessed it -- his bum thumb.
