The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 21 trophy, $300,000 and a Harley Davidson motorcycle are going home with The Blackzilians.
Kamaru Usman won the very first fight of TUF 21 for his team and he closed the show tonight, submitting Hayder Hassan of American Top Team (ATT) via side triangle in the second round in TUF 21 Finale, which took place tonight (Sun., July 12, 2015) inside MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
"I feel great," Usman told Jon Anik after the fight. "It was a long road. I've been working so hard for this and my manager believed in me when most didn't. I'm glad he decided to trust me and put me in the position for me to go out and represent my team and get the job done because I knew I could get the job done for us."
Usman immediately went for a single-leg to start things off in the first round, but Hassan was able to defend against it. Usman would keep pressing "Hulk" against the cage and got him to the mat, but he couldn't hold down the ATT fighter.
"Nigerian Nightmare" again clinched up with Hassan, delivered several knees and again forced Hassan against the cage, before securing another takedown. Usman would take Hassan's back shortly after, but Hassan made it back to his feet.
Usman would drag him back down yet again.
"Hulk" made it back to his feet again, but Usman was all over him and took him down once more. Usman finished the round in Hassan's half guard, but didn't mount much offense.
In the second stanza, Hassan charged in and landed an uppercut, but the Blackzilians-trained fighter went to his bread and butter and landed a gorgeous takedown.
From there, Usman was in total control. He locked up a side triangle along the cage and despite not having much room, sealed the deal for the submission finish. Referee Herb Dean waved the fight off at the 1:19 mark of the second round because of a Hassan tap.
