For whatever reason, Lightweight Jorge Masvidal and Middleweight Cezar Ferreira decided to meet in the middle and fight at Welterweight tonight (Sun., July 12, 2015) at The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 21 Finale inside MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
It was an explosive idea!
Immediately the size difference was noticeable -- Ferreira looked like a monster inside the Octagon opposite "Game Bred." And he wasted little time imposing his size, scoring a takedown and making Masvidal carry his weight. Masvidal was able to escape quick, though, and began to stalk Ferreira on the feet.
Ferreira attempted to close the distance with a pair of takedowns, but both ended with Masvidal's back pressed up against the cage. The second, however, turned violent, as Masvidal exploded with a devastating right hand as Ferreira went for a level change.
Big mistake!
Masvidal unleashed a lethal right hand that put Ferreira immediately on his butt. As he rolled to his back, Masvidal was all over him, unloaded at least three clean head bouncers that had the Brazilian unconscious after the first.
It marked the first striking-related finish for Masvidal in his 12-fight career with UFC / World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC). His 170-pound debut felt so good about it that he called out Matt Brown in his post-fight interview.
Pump the breaks!
