The dust has barely settled on UFC 189, which means it's time to honor those select fighters who went above and beyond in their respective fights last night (Sat., July 11, 2015) live from inside MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada (full results here).
Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) dished out its standard post-fight monetary bonuses to four of the 22 fighters on the card. Among the men going home with and extra $50,000 in their pocket is, of course, the promotion's brightest star not named Ronda Rousey, Irish superstar Conor McGregor.
Oh, and he also became the interim Featherweight champion of the world after a come-from-behind finish of Chad Mendes in the evening's main event (watch video highlights here).
Thomas Almeida earned the other "Performance of the Night" award after weathering a blistering Brad Pickett storm to register a sensational second round finish with a crushing knee to the face.
That's not all.
Welterweight champion Robbie Lawler and Rory MacDonald both walked away with extra coin after their thrilling, back-and-forth 170-pound showdown that was one for the ages (watch video highlights here). After 4.5 rounds of incredible action, it was "Ruthless" who scored a face-crunching fifth round knockout to retain his world title.
One of the best night of PPV fights in a very, very long time. It will be hard to match.
Here are the special UFC 189 bonuses:
Fight of the Night -- Robbie Lawler vs. Rory MacDonald
Performance of the Night -- Conor McGregor
Performance of the Night -- Thomas Almeida
Again, each fighter received $50,000 extra for their performances in addition to their respective base salaries, which Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) will disclose later this week.
