Two of the best Middleweight mixed martial arts (MMA) fighters in the world Lyoto Machida (No. 4) and Yoel Romero (No. 6) went toe-to-toe tonight (Sat., June 27, 2015) in the main event of UFC Fight Night 70, which took place inside Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida.
It started out slow, but boy did it end in a hurry.
Romero scored a devastating third round knockout after chasing the elusive former Light Heavyweight champion around the Octagon for more than 10 minutes. Indeed, it appeared that Romero had reached his patience limit, even though he was scoring effectively on the feet against "The Dragon."
In fact, he more than likely won round two after a close opening frame.
Nonetheless, it was apparently time for change. And when the Olympic-level wrestler decided to get the match to the ground he did it quickly and violently. Machida likely had no idea what was going on, and before he knew it, Romero was raining down punches from all angles.
In the midst of his furious flurry, Romero adjusted and dropped a short elbow that made it through Machida's defense, and then a second that separated him from consciousness. The final two were apparently just for good measure.
So sick, so fast, so unexpected.
