Top-ranked Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Flyweight contender, John Dodson, cemented his elite status last month at UFC 187, earning a hard-fought unanimous decision victory over one-time Bellator Bantamweight champion, Zach Makovsky, after a near year-long layoff.
Immediately, "The Magician" put 125-pound champion, Demetrious Johnson, on notice -- and blast -- that he was angling for a rematch against "Mighty Mouse."
His trick worked.
Johnson and Dodson will collide again in the main event of UFC 191, which takes place inside MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Sept. 5, 2015. The announcement was made earlier this evening during the UFC Fight Night 71 broadcast.
The pair first met at UFC on FOX 6 in Jan. 2013 to crown the division's inaugural UFC champion after a four-man elimination tournament. Johnson would go on to win a close unanimous decision and hasn't looked back since, defending his title five times in dominant fashion.
In fact, Johnson has been so impressive inside the Octagon that he is recognized as the No. 3-ranked best pound-for-pound fighter in UFC today.
Dodson has not been quite as active because of the aforementioned injury-related layoff (knee surgery), but he has been almost as impressive, winning three straight against solid competition.
It will soon be time to put up or shut up, even though the latter could be impossible in Dodson's case.
UFC 191 will also feature the return of top-ranked Light Heavyweight contender, Anthony Johnson, taking on Jan Błachowicz, as well as Strawweight standout Paige VanZant taking on Alex Chambers.
