I guess we can stop campaigning for that Carla Esparza vs. Jessica Penne showdown.
That's because "Cookie Monster," who was devoured by Joanna Jedrzejczyk earlier this year in Dallas, Texas, will be going under the knife to repair a shoulder injury sustained in her UFC 185 knockout loss, one that stripped her of the 115-pound strap.
I will be undergoing surgery as a result of a shoulder injury from my last fight. I will be out6-8months. http://t.co/1gtL5dS6y4

The defeat to Jedrzejczyk snapped a fight-fight winning streak for The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 20 champ.
Losing Esparza is a mighty blow to the strawweight division, simply because there aren't enough viable contenders to keep the assembly line moving (see it here). Then again, the champion will be riding the pine (thanks to this) and should return just as this fight determines the next No. 1 contender.
After that? Time will tell.
