Bellator 138 results recap for 'Kimbo vs Shamrock' event last night in St. Louis

The seventh Bellator MMA event of 2015 was the "Kimbo vs. Shamrock" card, also known as Bellator 138: "Unfinished Business," taking place last night (June 19, 2015) on Spike TV inside Scottrade Center in St. Louis, Missouri.

The featured bout at the top of the card was a grudge match dating back to 2008 that finally got resolved. Heavyweight street fighting sensation Kevin "Kimbo Slice" Ferguson was set to face "The World's Most Dangerous Man" Ken Shamrock in Elite XC, but thanks to a late injury to Shamrock just before the fight, the match never took place.

Kimbo vowed to go to the locker room to settle their beef if it happened again. Did he have to make good on that promise?

Shamrock was more game than the odds makers had him early, attacking right away with a takedown. When Slice got back up, Shamrock single-legged him and went for a rear-naked choke with everything he had.

And I mean everything, because when he didn't get it, he had nothing left.

Slice got up, rocked him, and referee John McCarthy stopped it at 2:21.

Both fighters spoke to Jimmy Smith after the main event, starting with the victor Kimbo Slice.

"First thing I wanna do, I wanna give thanks to my lord and savior Jesus Christ, St. Louis I love you, and a happy birthday to my daughter. I trained for the ground. Tapping is not an option. It was not an option."

Ken Shamrock offered this assessment in his post-fight interview.

"When you come into a fight and get beat you gotta show respect to the guy who beat you. I feel frustrated, I had the submission, I didn't take my time with it (and) I lost my position."

The co-main event was a Featherweight title defense for Patricio "Pitbull" Freire, winner of six straight, against German sensation Daniel Weichel, winner of SEVEN straight. Somebody's run of dominance would end in the Show-Me-State.

The two rounds were like night and day for the champion. Freire was nearly left in the dark by a late flurry and a knee from Weichel in R1, being literally saved by the bell. Weichel came forward with confidence to start R2 thinking Freire was still rocked, but a counter left and a big right floored him, and one punch on the ground had John step in at 0:32 to save Weichel.

"Wow, my opponent's that tough, but I'm ready. I can do it. I am very happy - AND STILL! You want my belt? I'm here. C'mon!"

Kimbo Slice and Ken Shamrock were not the only Heavyweights featured in St. Louis. "The Dominator" Bobby Lashley was expected to face "The Colossus" James Thompson, but 9-2 Dan Charles subbed in on short notice due to injury.

Lashley lived up to his nickname (and pro wrestling background) with a merciless two round display of takedowns, suplexes, and powerbombs. In the second stanza Charles completely gassed out, eating numerous right hands to the head and underneath his chin, forcing "Big" John McCarthy to wave it off at 4:14. Lashley spoke to Jimmy Smith after his dominating performance.

"You always go back to your base, and wrestling's your base, so all the heavyweights have to know I'm going to take them down. I just keep moving forward man. The heavyweight division's wide open. I love St. Louis! I used to live here! Since this fight's over I get to go celebrate with my St. Louis friends."

Former featherweight champion Daniel Straus had never lost two in a row going into the show last night. His opponent Henry Corrales had never lost at all. The newcomer Corrales had a chance to vault himself into the elite ranks with a win, while Straus was in search of redemption and future title contention.

It took two rounds for Straus to finally rock the resilient chin of Corrales, with Will Brooks screaming out advice to him the whole time, but at 2:14 he finally stunned Corrales with a left hook and jumped on him on the ground looking for the finish. "This is what I do. What I do is come in here and beat yo' ass man, flat out. Here's my message man. Whoever win that belt (tonight), I'ma come and beat yo' ass. Whoever come at me at 145, I'ma beat yo' ass too."

Former lightweight champion Michael Chandler was looking to break a three fight losing streak against the tough Derek Campos, winner of four out of his last five in Bellator. Only Patricio's brother Patricky had handed Campos a loss of late, but Chandler's losses had all come in world title fights. Who prevailed here?

Chandler. The hometown favorite from High Ridge, Missouri left absolutely nothing to change - lighting Campos up after having his chin tested by a couple of lefts, pounding him hard on the ground with hammers and elbows, letting him stand up, then throwing him to the ground RIGHT ON HIS HEAD. Chandler spoke to Jimmy smith about the finish after Michael Williams made it official.

"Derek Campos is a tough guy, hit me a couple of times right in the mouth, I've got a bloody lip. I'm not in the sport to tiptoe and find easy fights. My hat's off to him. A little bit of a wrestling slam there then going for the legs and trying to choke his neck. Missouri is the greatest place in the world! I love each and every one of you! Will Brooks, that belt's got my name on it! I want it back!"

Brooks stood up in front of press row to answer the challenge, and could be heard shouting "I ain't going nowhere!"
