Dana White: UFC 188 broke the record for most fighters puking after fights

Fighting at elevation is no joke!

Bruce Fedyck-USA TODAY Sports

Yair Rodriguez picked up a very-impressive split decision win over Charles Rosa last night (June 13, 2015) at UFC 188, which went down in Mexico City, Mexico.

Recap here.

During his post-fight speech, a winded Yair expressed his happiness, and then proceeded to puke in the center of the Octagon. A sign of just how brutal it is fighting for 15 minutes at an elevation of 7,200 feet...and food poisoning, according to Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) president Dana White.

But, Yair wasn't alone, as White revealed during the post-fight press conference (via Sherdog) that five other fighters puked after their respective fights backstage. And for those wondering, yes, it is a UFC record.

"[Werdum] looked unbelievable. He came into this fight with a great game plan. He went up [to train] into higher elevation than Mexico City. People think Denver, Colo., is a tough place to fight. This is a tough place to fight. I think we broke the record for guys puking in the back -- like six guys threw up after their fights. This altitude kills you here."

Of course, Fabricio Werdum wasn't on that list, as the heavyweight was very acclimated to the air Mexico City has to offer, as he was living the country for two months prior to his title unification fight against Cain Velasquez.

And it showed, as he was the fresher of the two fighters prior to latching on to a fight-winning guillotine choke in the third round (see it again here). In doing so, he outlasted a man with a legendary gas tank ... as well as took his crown.

As predicted.
