Former UFC champion responds to GLORY 21 call out from retired WWE star

If you thought you were going to see former WWE and WCW champion Bill Goldberg take on former UFC, Strikeforce, and WEC champion Frank Shamrock in a GLORY kickboxing bout, don't get your hopes up just yet.

Goldberg, 48, is a huge fan of GLORY and also trains in kickboxing. The former professional wrestling star has hosted the last two "Countdown to GLORY" shows on Spike TV for GLORY 20 and GLORY 21. The promotion was seeking to put him up against Alberto del Rio, but Goldberg turned that offer down.

On Wednesday (May 6, 2015), Goldberg took to Twitter and called out MMA legend Frank Shamrock.

Shamrock, 42, last fought in 2009, losing by technical knockout to Nick Diaz in Strikeforce. He has done some commentary and worked with Bellator MMA as a backstage reporter and on Spike TV shows Gym Rescue and Fight Master. The former champion gave MMAmania.com a brief statement about Goldberg's invitation to fight.

"I am retired," Shamrock said via text message.

With both men being over 40 years of age, and Shamrock being out of action for the last six years, this fight seemed highly unlikely to take place, despite any rumors or rumblings that may have been going on. Shamrock reminding everyone he is retired should quell any thoughts that he would return to action against Goldberg, who has never fought professionally.
