On paper, it seems the next logical match up to make in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) welterweight division is one pitting Johny Hendricks against fellow wrestling standout Tyron Woodley.
"The Chosen One" obviously wants it, but it's not a sentiment shared by "Bigg Rigg," according to Woodley's manager, Malki Kawa.
If he did, then the former division champion would answer one of the many challenges Woodley has posted on social media. That's according to Kawa's comments during his recent guest spot on The MMA Hour (via MMA Fighting):
"If you look at Tyron's accounts on social media, he's looking for that fight. He's begging for that fight. Johny wants no part of Tyron. I don't think that's a good fight for Johny. I think he wants to wait it out and get the championship and I can understand where he's coming from, but if I was him I'd fight Tyron and shut Tyron up. Tyron can be annoying when it comes to that stuff. He's constant -- 'I want that fight, I want that fight. I'm pushing for it.' [Woodley] really wants that fight bad. I don't know if Hendricks wants that fight, to be honest with you."
Hendricks recently got back on the winning track by defeating Matt Brown at UFC 185 earlier this year (full video replay here) after losing his title to Robbie Lawler at UFC 181 last December.
As for Woodley, he's reeled off two straight wins including handing Kelvin Gastelum the first loss of his mixed martial arts (MMA) career earlier this year at UFC 183.
With both men currently needing opponents, it could very well be a fight Joe Silva can book with no complaints from fans. But, he may have a hard time convincing Hendricks of taking it -- if in fact "Bigg Rigg" wants to hold out and face the winner of the upcoming title fight between Robbie Lawler and Rory MacDonald at UFC 189.
How about it, fight fans, is Hendricks vs. Woodley a match up you want to see?
