Longtime lightweight veteran Jorge Masvidal is moving up to the welterweight division to battle former middleweight Cezar Ferreira as part of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 21 Finale, scheduled for July 12, 2015 in South Florida, according to Brazil's Ricardo Carlini (via MMA Fighting).
That's where TUF 21 is currently filming for "ATT vs. Blackzilians."
Masvidal (28-9) saw his three-fight winning streak go up in smoke against Al Iaquinta by way of controversial
F-bomb split decision at the UFC Fight Night 63 event just last month. "Gamebred" has a habit of compiling wins, then giving them away at the precipice of breaking through.
Perhaps a new weight class will yield better results?
Waiting for him will be Ferreira (8-4), who is struggling to stay consistent (and conscious) in recent fights. After a fast 3-0 start to his Octagon career, "Mutante" is just 1-2, coming off a blistering first-round knockout loss to Sam Alvey last February in Brazil.
He needs a win. Badly.
TUF 21 Finale, in addition to settling the welterweight score on the combat sports reality show, will feature a lightweight contender's showdown between ex-champ Ben Henderson and rising star Michael Johnson. In addition, Michelle Waterson will make her UFC debut against Angela Magana.
Expect more fight announcements -- as well as a host venue -- to be revealed in the coming weeks.
