Are you one of the mixed martial arts (MMA) "fans" who keep insisting how the winner of Anthony Johnson vs. Daniel Cormier, who fight at UFC 187 later this month in Las Vegas, Nevada, won't emerge from the Memorial Day Weekend pay-per-view (PPV) main event as the real champion because neither fighter was able to defeat Jon Jones?
If so, "Rumble" has an important message for you (via Instagram):
"A lot of ppl are sounding really dumb and saying you're not the champ until you beat the champ. Well we know the story so no need to go into that. At the end of the day a new champ will be crowned and life will go on, Regardless of how you feel! So at the end of the day you say you like the sport and respect the fighters then show it by supporting not by saying something stupid. It is what it is! Nobody is denying Jon his credit at all."
The "story" Johnson is referring to involves former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones, who was stripped of his 205-pound strap last week after being charged with felony hit-and-run (full story here). In addition, "Bones" has been suspended indefinitely.
That means "Rumble" will have a chance to capture the crown by turning away Cormier, who for the record, is siding with his hard-hitting foe in the "real champion" debate. And in their defense, the situation is out of their hands, unless they decide to challenge Jones in an Albuquerque smoker (just to prove a point).
That's my stupid opinion and I'm sticking to it.
