WSOF 22: 'Palhares vs. Shields' set for Aug. 1, adds Tyrone Spong vs. Mike Kyle and more

World Series of Fighting (WSOF) recently announced a world championship tripleheader for Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Sat., Aug. 1, 2015, live on NBC Sports Network (NBCSN).

"Palhares vs. Shields" will feature a welterweight title fight pitting reigning champion Rousimar Palhares against fellow Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) import Jake Shields. In the bantamweight co-main event, 135-pound kingpin Marlon Moraes puts his strap on the line against undefeated contender Sheymon Moraes.

Elsewhere on the card, undefeated rising stars Magomed Bibulatov and Donavon Frelow will face off to crown an inaugural WSOF flyweight champion, while Tyrone Spong returns to the cage against longtime mixed martial arts (MMA) veteran Mike Kyle.

"This is, in my opinion, the most incredible lineup of fights featuring marquee talent that WSOF has put together since we launched the company in 2012," said WSOF President Ray Sefo. "We have a collection of highly competitive match ups with top-caliber superstars that have all made some kind of mark in the sport, and it should be a spectacular night of world-class combat."

The live NBCSN telecast of WSOF 22: "Palhares vs. Shields" main card airs at 11 p.m. ET on August 1, which puts it directly against the UFC 190: "Rousey vs. Correia" pay-per-view (PPV) event in Brazil, which has a start time of 10 p.m. ET (more on that here).
