Ultimate Fighting Championship's (UFC) 2015 Hall of Fame (HOF) inductees list continued to grow tonight (Sat., May 23, 2015) during the FOX Sports 1 UFC 187 "Prelims," as former two division champion BJ Penn was announced as the latest addition.
Penn's announcement was made alongside a special highlight reel for "The Prodigy," which you can watch in the video above.
The legendary Hawaiian will join Bas Rutten, Jeff Blatnick and the Matt Hughes and Frank Trigg rematch as the 2015 inductees. The HOF induction ceremony will go down during International Fight Week, which coincides with the upcoming UFC 189: "Aldo vs. McGregor" pay-per-view (PPV) event on July 11 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Although Penn finished his career with a 16-10-2 record, "The Prodigy" will forever be remembered for earning both the UFC lightweight and welterweight championships, with highlight victories over Matt Hughes, Joe Stevenson, Kenny Florian, Diego Sanchez, Sean Sherk, Jens Pulver, and more.
Fighting in the Octagon for more than a decade, Penn is unquestionably worthy of his place in the HOF, which will soon have a physical location.
There may be more inductees in the "Modern Era" and "Pioneer Era" categories announced this weekend as part of scheduled UFC 187 programming, so follow along all the news with our comprehensive event guide right here.
