It wasn't the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) career that Mark Munoz envisioned when he transitioned from World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) back in 2009.
However, "Filipino Wrecking Machine" ended it on his terms, riding off into mixed martial arts (MMA) retirement earlier this morning with a dominant unanimous decision win over Luke Barnatt at UFC Fight Night 66. Munoz did it, too, in front of a proud Filipino crowd inside Mall of Asia Arena in Manila, Philippines.
Munoz leveraged his world-class wrestling to take down 6'6" British talent and work him over on the mat. And when "Bigslow" overcommitted on his sprawls, Munoz would drill him with overhand bombs. It was an impressive performance, one that he needed desperately needed to snap a three-fight skid and move on to the next phase of his life on a high note.
His bilingual post-fight speech (watch it here), was one for the ages, too.
