The most devastating man in boxing, Kazakhstan's Gennady Golovkin, will look for knockout No. 30 in 33 professional fights this evening (Sat., May 16, 2015) when he tangles with slick American southpaw Willie Monroe Jr. in the main event of a talent-rich doubleheader inside The Forum in Inglewood, California.
MMAmania.com will have LIVE coverage of "Golovkin vs. Monroe" below, starting with the HBO Boxing broadcast at 10 p.m. ET.
Golovkin (32-0, 29 KO) has stopped his last 19 opponents, his last decision victory coming in 2008. Earlier this year, "GGG" dispatched rugged Englishman Martin Murray over the course of 11 one-sided rounds. Before that, he'd throttled ranked contenders Marco Antonio Rubio and Daniel Geale in less than five combined rounds.
Monroe Jr. (19-1, 6 KO) comes in having won his last nine bouts, his most recent defeat coming to spoiler extraordinaire Darnell Boone in 2011. He was last seen taking a unanimous decision from veteran Brian Vera.
The co-main event is equally -- if not more -- enticing, as it gives HBO viewers their first glimpse of a man with a legitimate claim to the title of pound-for-pound greatest: Roman "Chocolatito" Gonzalez (42-0, 36 KO). The flyweight champion has stopped 13 of his last 14 opponents and is looking to do the same to Edgar Sosa (51-8, 30 KO), a 15-year veteran and former titleholder at both flyweight and light flyweight.
