UFC Fight Night 66 results: Frankie Edgar shuts out Urijah Faber in Manila

Jayne Kamin-Oncea-USA TODAY Sports

The long awaited fight between Urijah Faber and Frankie Edgar finally went down earlier today (Sat., May 16, 2015) in the main event of of UFC Fight Night 66 in Manila, Philippines.

One man (Edgar) looked to earn himself the next crack at the featherweight title, while the other (Faber) looked to show the mixed martial arts (MMA) world that he's still a forced to be reckoned with.

As expected, the two let the fight play out on the feet, with Faber getting the better of the few exchanges early with a well-placed overhand right. Edgar's takedown attempts were thwarted by "The California Kid," who used the cage to his advantage.

Although he was warned multiple times for grabbing on to the fence.

Round two was much of the same frantic pace, this time it was Edgar who had better luck in the striking department. Using his quickness to get in and out, "The Answer" took round two, but it was competitive.

Round three saw Edgar utilize his wrestling pedigree to wear Faber out and eventually take him down on a few occasions. Punches in bunches was "The Answer's" main objective. Urijah, it seemed, simply couldn't dish out the volume his corner was asking for.

Rinse and repeat performance for rounds four and five was good enough to give Edgar the unanimous decision victory over the former king of World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC).

Whether or not it was a good enough win to get him the winner of the upcoming title fight between Jose Aldo and Conor McGregor -- which goes down at UFC 189 on July 11, 2015 in Las Vegas, Nevada -- remains to be seen.

How about it, Maniacs, did the fight live up to your expectations? You have to admit, this "super fight" had a lot more action than this one.
