A lot of people in the mixed martial arts (MMA) community were looking forward to the lightweight showdown between former 155-pound kingpin Ben Henderson and streaking division contender Michael Johnson, planned for The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 21 Finale on July 12, 2015 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Unfortunately for all parties involved, the proposed fight has been called off, according to a recent report from MMA Fighting, after "Smooth" was forced to withdraw from the upcoming event for undisclosed reasons.
Bummer.
That may help to explain why the promotion opted to name the Jake Ellenberger vs. Stephen Thompson welterweight contest the five-round main event, which was pulled from the upcoming UFC 189 pay-per-view (PPV) and repackaged for FOX Sports 1 (more on that here).
No word yet on whether or not Johnson will stay on to compete at TUF 21 Finale, or perhaps return to the sidelines to await his next summons.
Stay tuned.
