There was an odd moment in Ronda Rousey's life where the former Olympic bronze medalist had come up short of the gold in the 2008 Beijing Games and had no interest in returning to competition anytime soon.
With a $10,000 prize in hand, the future Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) titleholder went on a party binge for a year, smoking marijuana and developing a bad habit for painkillers, according to her new book "My Fight/Your Fight."
From the New York Post:
"Rousey began smoking and drinking heavily, often beginning her day with a cigarette and a vodka espresso. She developed a pot-and-Vicodin habit. She'd sleep in her car, and when she did find an apartment, all she could afford was a 12-by-12-foot studio.
"On more than one occasion," [Rousey] writes, "sewage would come up out of the toilet and shower, and I'd come home from work to an apartment filled with s- -t. I didn't think I could get any lower."
Pretty stunning revelation from UFC's golden girl!
Although, we can't say UFC President Dana White was ignorant to the fact Rousey used to engage in extracurricular activities, having once labeled the UFC champ "a Diaz brother inside."
"Rowdy" goes on to explain how hitting rock bottom helped her to find mixed martial arts (MMA), and I guess you can say the rest is history.
The UFC champ will be back inside the Octagon when she takes on Bethe Correia in the UFC 190 pay-per-view (PPV) main event, scheduled to go down inside HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Aug. 1, 2015.
