Is Tyron Woodley good enough to fight for the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) welterweight title?
Certainly one way to find out.
"The Chosen One" is hoping to pick a fight with former 170-pound kingpin Johny Hendricks, another talented wrestler with heavy hands, for the upcoming UFC 189: "Aldo vs. McGregor" pay-per-view (PPV) event on July 11, 2015 inside MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
That's according to a report from UFC Tonight.
Woodley (15-3) may need to convince UFC matchmakers he's ready for the big time after a ho-hum split decision win over Kelvin Gastelum last January. The former Strikeforce contender is now 2-0 since falling to Rory MacDonald and stopping "Bigg Rigg" would make one helluva statement.
Easier said than done.
Outside of a couple of close decision losses, Hendricks (17-3) has been nearly perfect. After losing his title to Robbie Lawler at UFC 181, the bearded brawler bounced back with a commanding performance against the "Immortal" Matt Brown at UFC 185.
A second straight win and he's likely due for another title shot, but is turning away Woodley the means to that end?
Better yet, is this a fight you want to see?
