We knew it was happening. Now we know when.
Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) heavyweight champion Frank Mir will face 265-pound rising star Todd Duffee in the five-round main event of UFC Fight Night 72, which takes place on July 15, 2015 inside the Valley View Casino Center in San Diego, California.
UFC Tonight announced the booking on Wednesday.
Mir (17-9) is back in the good graces of his employers thanks to a blistering first-round knockout of Antonio Silva last February in Brazil. The "Bigfoot" victory snapped a four-fight losing streak and likely kept the longtime grappler employed for the remainder of the year.
But the competition isn't getting any easier.
Duffee (9-2) competed just three times over the past four years after battling multiple health issues, but certainly made the most of those performances, racking up three brutal knockouts in the opening frame and finally living up to some of the potential he first displayed back in 2009.
UFC Fight Night 72 on FOX Sports 1 will also feature an electric lightweight showdown pitting old school vs. new as Josh Thomson goes head-to-head with Tony Ferguson, while Igor Araujo and Sean Strickland bang it out in welterweight action.
Expect more UFC Fight Night 72 fight card announcements in the coming weeks.
