Masvidal-Iaquinta decision shows why ONE FC's judging criteria is superior for MMA.

"You booing me!? F*CK YOU!!!"

By now you've seen the Jorge Masvidal vs. Al Iaquinta fight that led to the most hilarious (and probably embarrassing for UFC) post fight interview of all time.

Almost everybody who watched agreed that Masvidal won, except for the inept judges.

The judging incompetence and outdated 10 pt. must scoring system are to blame.

Dave Meltzer agrees in his excellent article, and suggests adding half-points.

HOWEVER, the problem is actually the 10 pt. scoring system ITSELF, because it's a system that's made for BOXING, not MMA.

What UFC truly needs is a scoring system tailored for MMA itself...

...and that scoring system already exists my friends, in the epic ONE FC (my personal favorite MMA promotion)

ONE FC's superior judging criteria is tailored specifically to MMA, like how it should be. If you've watched a ONE FC event, then you know, and if you haven't, well then this is just one more reason why you need to tune in.

ONE Championship judges the fight as a whole (like PRIDE did) not round by round, and scores the fight by order of importance placed most on Near KO's & Submissions, then Damage, Striking Combos, Cage Generalship, Takedowns/TDD, and Aggression. http://www.onefc.com/about-one/rules.html

Under that superior scoring criteria Masvidal would have defeated Al without a doubt. Masvidal rocked Al in the 1st and almost finished him. That right there would've scored heavily in ONE. Plus, in his article Meltzer even alluded to how Masvidal would've won the fight if it had been scored as a whole. In fact, if you think back to some other controversial UFC decisions and score them with ONE's superior criteria it would fix A LOT of wrongs done.

ONE FC's superior criteria would not allow a fighter to just walk forward eating punches and win the fight on aggression alone (as was the excuse I read of how apologists justified giving Iaquinta the decision), nor does it allow for a fighter to get his ass beat for most of a round and then "win" it by scoring a takedown in the final minute (there are PLENTY of examples I know you will think of for that).

My personal favorite part of ONE's superior criteria is how it scores Near Submissions. I cannot fathom why near submissions are not scored more heavily in UFC, because scoring near submissions would encourage guys to actually go for them instead of just "laying and praying" (so they don't lose "top position" and "control") and lead to more exciting fights, especially on the ground.

A great example of this happened recently at Bellator 135 in the Fight of the Year Candidate between L.C. Davis and Hideo Tokoro. Personally, I was livid that Tokoro got robbed of the decision IMO, because he was clearly bringing the action and going for all kinds of rad submission attempts (including a flying scissor-kick takedown ankle lock!), but yet was not rewarded at all for that action on the scorecards. You see, because of taking those risks (and making the fight exciting), he ended up on the bottom more, which incorrectly led to him losing the decision. The fact that Tokoro had Davis in more compromising positions and almost finished him by submissions AND strikes on multiple occasions should, and would, have actually counted for something under ONE FC's superior judging criteria, as they should be.

ONE Championship is CLEARLY leading the way in MMA with THE best rulest AND best judging criteria in the sport. Tune in and you will see!

The next ONE FC is April 24: Ben Askren vs. Luis Santos in Manila, Philippines.

As always, THANKS for reading!
