Suspension? What suspension?
Less than a week after plastering Carlos Diego Ferreira at UFC Fight Night 63 in Fairfax, Virginia, revitalized lightweight standout Dustin Poirier will return to his old stomping grounds to battle Yancy Medeiros at the UFC Fight Night 68 mixed martial arts (MMA) event, locked and loaded for the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans, Louisiana, on June 6, 2015.
UFC announced the pairing on Tuesday night.
Poirier (17-4) abandoned the featherweight division after a high-profile loss to Conor McGregor last fall, insisting he could perform at a much higher level without the drastic weight cut to 145. And if his performance against the Brazilian in "Old Dominion" is any indication, he appears to be correct.
And a very tough out at 155 pounds.
But he's got a pretty stiff test ahead of him in Medeiros (11-2, 1 NC), who is riding back-to-back submission wins over Joe Proctor and Damon Jackson, respectively. The Hawaiian "Kid" has nine finishes in 11 wins and is widely-considered to be one of the division's brightest prospects.
No better way to solidify that than by dusting the "Diamond."
UFC Fight Night 68 will feature a light heavyweight showdown between top division contenders Daniel Cormier and Ryan Bader. Also on the FOX Sports 1 fight card, longtime MMA veteran Dan Henderson returns to take on the rough-and-tumble Tim Boetsch.
