Carlos Diego Ferreira was knocked out by Dustin Poirier in the first round of their lightweight fight at the UFC Fight Night 63 event last weekend on FOX Sports 1, but fuck it, why let a little thing like head trauma stop him from getting back into the cage at his earliest convenience?
That's how they roll at the Virginia Boxing, MMA and Wrestling Advisory Board.
According to a list of medical suspensions provided to MMA Junkie, just four of the 20 fighters competing last Saturday (April 4, 2015) in "Old Dominion" -- including Poirier -- were issued post-fight medical suspensions, none of which exceeded 60 days.
Safety first!
In addition to "The Diamond's" 60-day sit, Ricardo Lamas, Milana Dudieva, and Shamil Abdurakhimov were all suspended for 30 days.
Not that it matters, as fighters often return to action much quicker once their own doctors give them the green light. The post-fight suspensions are just a precaution in most cases.
