UFC Fight Night 63 results: Chad Mendes destroys Ricardo Lamas with violent first round finish

Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

Two of the best Featherweight fighters on the planet, Chad Mendes and Ricardo Lamas, looked to get back in the No. 1 contender chase today (April 4, 2015) in the main event of UFC Fight Night 63 from Patriot Center in Fairfax, Virginia.

And it didn't take long for Mendes to make a jaw-dropping statement.

After a relatively pedestrian start, Mendes exploded with a a huge right hand that dropped Lamas along the cage and hurt him bad. Mendes didn't let Lamas recover, swarming with a barrage of pin-point strikes that had Lamas falling all over the cage trying to avoid the punishment.

Lamas was somehow able to get back to his feet, but Mendes sent him right back down with another clean shot. Lamas turtled up and Mendes landed two more devastating strikes as he was on his knees along the cage. It was far from "intelligent" defense, as Mendes took a break and motioned to the referee, who stepped in and waived off the match after just 2.5 minutes.

Wow ... what an explosive "Money" performance.
