Jon Jones does not enter plea in court, judge will allow UFC champion to travel

Jon Jones made his first court appearance this afternoon at Bernalillo County Metropolitan Court in Albuquerque, N.M., in front of Jude Maria Dominguez.

UFC's light heavyweight champion did not enter a plea at today's proceeding. And a 60-day rule date has been put in place, according to the Bernalillo County Metropolitan Court spokesman, Camille Cordova.

What that means is that during that time the District Attorney will decide whether or not to indict Jones and have his case presented in front of a grand jury. That would be the next step.

Today's court appearance was to review probable cause as to whether or not the officer had a reason to make an arrest. Jones' attorney, Vincent Ward, did not make an argument against that and Judge Dominguez set conditions of release, Cordova said.

Those conditions include no drugs or alcohol during that timeframe, which concludes on June 29, 2015. If Jones is not indicted by that time the conditions would no longer be in place.

Jones was arrested on Monday evening by the Albuquerque Police Department (see his mugshot pic here) and charged with a "leaving the scene of an accident" felony. He was booked at the Bernalillo County Metropolitan Detention Center and posted $2,500 bail a few hours later.

The $2,500 bail that Jones posted on Monday evening is continued as long as he complies with those conditions.

Cordova also mentioned Jones' lawyer did request that Jones ability to travel would not be restricted and that request was granted by Judge Dominguez.

Jones is still scheduled to face Anthony Johnson at UFC 187 on May 23, 2015, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Perhaps the promotion, which initially reserved action until more information about the case was gathered, wanted to wait until a travel restriction was or was not ordered.

Regardless, at the time of this writing, UFC has still not commented on Jones' status for his upcoming fight against "Rumble" and whether or not the promotion will suspend -- or strip -- its most talented superstar in the wake of his latest fiasco.
