Less than two years after his Driving Under the Influence (DUI) arrest (see that mugshot here), Jon Jones once again had to reluctantly pose for law enforcement cameras.
The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Light Heavyweight champion tonight turned himself in to the Bernalillo County Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) "without incident," more than 24 hours removed from fleeing the scene of a hit-and-run car accident that sent a 20-something pregnant woman to the hospital with a broken arm and wrist.
Jones is being held on felony charges of leaving the scene of an accident on a $2,500 bond. His victim, meanwhile, was named as Vanessa Sonnenberg, who has already undergone an ultrasound to ensure that her unborn child is well.
UFC has decided to maintain radio silence until it gathers all the facts and will "reserve further comment until more information is available."
The clock is ticking, though, with Jones still scheduled to defend his 205-pound world title against Anthony Johnson in the main event of UFC 187, which takes place inside MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, on May 23, 2015.
All things considered, including Jones' latest dangerous vehicular escapade (and potential drug use), it would make sense to send him back to treatment ... for longer than 24 hours.
But, then again, perhaps there is "more to the story" like last time. And we can all be "proud" of the final decision once all the spin is facts are in.
