After a tough outing in his last Octagon appearance, John Makdessi was out to prove he still was a threat in the stacked 155-pound division last night (Sat., April 25, 2015) inside the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, during the UFC 186 pay-per-view (PPV).
Fighting in his home country, "The Bull" looked to be in for a rough night after a quick start for UFC debutant Shane Campbell.
After weathering the storm and finding the distance on his much rangier opponent, Makdessi utilized a ferocious striking game to put out "Shaolin" late in the first round.
Makdessi hurt Campbell midway through the first, but was unable to finish him after the first onslaught. As Campbell looked to regain his wits about him, the Tristar Gym product poured it on, accruing the finish with only seven seconds left in the round.
The victory earned "The Bull" his third finish in nine Octagon appearances, and really uplifted the Montreal crowd in attendance.
While Campbell left the Octagon with a loss, you have to respect him for taking the fight on short notice and not backing down throughout the five minute affair.
Makdessi will climb the lightweight ladder, while "Shaolin" will likely get one more chance to prove he is worthy of a UFC roster spot.
