Tim Kennedy wants to face Lyoto Machida in a 'loser leaves UFC' fight

Jayne Kamin-Oncea-USA TODAY Sports

All those in favor of dumping former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight kingpin Lyoto Machida -- but holding on to middleweight contender Tim Kennedy, say "I".

"Tim Kennedy wants to fight Lyoto Machida," according to Ariel Helwani on UFC Tonight. "It's a fight he's wanted for a long time and he wants it to be a loser leaves the UFC fight."

Alrighty then.

Kennedy was on the fence about returning to mixed martial arts (MMA) after a controversial loss to Yoel Romero last September. That's the fight where "Soldier of God" took a coffee break on his stool to get his legs back, long after the horn sounded to start the third round.

More on that nuttiness here.

Machida is fresh off a second-round shellacking at the hands (and elbows) of Luke Rockhold, who also holds a win over Kennedy, after the ex-Strikeforce champ slayed "The Dragon" at the UFC on FOX 15 event earlier this month in New Jersey (see it here).

Both Kennedy and Machida are coming off losses and neither can be considered in the running for a 185-pound title shot, so how about squaring them off this summer? Not sure about that whole "loser leaves town" thing, but still sounds like an interesting match up.

Anyone disagree?
