Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is slowly-but-surely filling up its upcoming UFC 189: "Aldo vs. McGregor" mixed martial arts (MMA) fight card, scheduled for the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Sat., July 11, 2015.
Today's addition comes in the form of a welterweight showdown pitting John Howard against Brandon Thatch, according to UFC Tonight, two fighters who share an urgency to get back into the win column.
Howard (22-11) is likely on the chopping block after three consecutive losses. Following a stellar 4-0 run in 2013, "Doomsday" went on a three-fight skid, having recently been stopped by Lorenz Larkin at the UFC Fight Night 59 event last January in Boston.
It's win or go home ... perhaps for good.
Thatch (11-2) is only one deep in the loss column since joining the ZUFFA fold, but it's a biggie. "Ruckus" not only got choked out by a late replacement at UFC Fight Night 60, but his submission defeat came against a puffed-up lightweight in the form of Ben Henderson, who took the towering striker to school back in February.
It will be interesting to see what kind of performance we get on the rebound.
The stacked UFC 189 championship doubleheader features reigning featherweight champion Jose Aldo battling division No. 1 contender Conor McGregor, while Robbie Lawler puts his welterweight title on the line against 170-pound wunderkind Rory MacDonald.
