It was originally scheduled as the co-main event of Bellator 135 in Thackerville, Oklahoma. Former bantamweight champion Eduardo Dantas and popular Bellator fighter Mike "The Marine" Richman were set to have a bout that would potentially determine the next man facing Marcos Galvao.
A late injury to Richman forced the fight to be scratched, with LC Davis vs. Hideo Tokoro moving up to the main card. It turned out to be a great decision for all involved, as Davis and Tokoro put on a contender for "Fight of the Year."
And now we know who the winner of Richman and Dantas will be facing: new bantamweight champion Marcos Galvao, unless Warren gets a rematch or LC Davis gets a title shot first.
Either way, Bellator sent out a reminder to mark the date on your calendar: Mike Richman and Eduardo Dantas will finally have their scrap on May 15th at the Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula, California. The card will be headlined by middleweight champ "Bull" Brandon Halsey fighting former Ultimate Fighter (TUF) winner Kendall "Da Spyder" Grove.
Two other fights were announced for the card: light heavyweights Virgil "Rezdog" Zwicker (13-4-1) vs. "Razor" Razak Al-Hassan (12-4) and welterweights Fernando "The Menifee Maniac" Gonzalez (23-13) vs. "Curtious" Curtis Millender (7-1).
"I'm pumped that we were able to reschedule the Dantas-Richman fight so quickly," said Bellator President Scott Coker. "Last Friday, Bellator saw two amazing bantamweight contests that produced a new champion and a 'Fight of the Year' candidate. Both Dantas and Richman are extremely exciting fighters who are undeniable standouts in a bantamweight division with a lot of depth."
