Okay, so nobody in the boxing community was paying attention when Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) President Dana White said former lightweight champion Sean Sherk would destroy Floyd Mayweather Jr. in less than two minutes, because that was 2007 when mixed martial arts (MMA) was not the global powerhouse that it is today.
Then White upped the ante several years later by claiming UFC Women's Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey would also short-change "Money," but again, nobody in the "sweet science" even batted an eyelash (especially Mayweather).
Now, it's Conor McGregor's turn.
"I don't look at a man who's expert in one area as a specialist, I look at him as a rookie in 10 other areas," McGregor told Esquire Magazine. "If you can box, what happens if I grab hold of your legs? If you put me face-to-face with Floyd Mayweather -- pound-for-pound boxing's best -- if I fought Floyd, I would kill him in less than 30 seconds. It would take me less than 30 seconds to wrap around him like a boa constrictor and strangle him."
If it only takes McGregor 30 seconds to submit Mayweather on the ground, I wonder how long it would take "Money" to knockout "Notorious" on the feet?
Not that it matters.
Both combatants have bigger fish to fry. Mayweather fights Manny Pacquiao on May 2 and will earn a purse that is probably more than every fighter from every UFC event ever made -- combined -- after tallying up what is expected to be a record pay-per-view (PPV) haul.
McGregor, meanwhile, battles Jose Aldo on July 11 in Las Vegas, Nevada (more on that fight here).
