Scott Jorgensen went up, Manny Gamburyan went down, and now they'll meet in the middle.
That's according to UFC.com, which brings word of their bantamweight pairing for the UFC Fight Night 72 mixed martial arts (MMA) event on FOX Sports 1, locked and loaded for the Valley View Casino Center in San Diego, Calif., on July 15, 2015.
Jorgensen (15-10) had a pretty successful run at 135 pounds, but cut down to flyweight after a title-eliminator loss to Urijah Faber in early 2013. The results were disastrous, as "Young Guns" dropped three of four, was finished twice, and missed weight.
At 32 years old, it's now or never as far as getting back into the mix.
Gamburyan (14-8, 1 NC), meanwhile, was consistently inconsistent at his former home of 145 pounds, winning a few, then losing a few (rinse and repeat). "The Manvil" went on a diet and tried his hand in the bantamweight division, where he choked out Cody Gibson at UFC 178.
Like Jorgensen, the 33-year-old Gamburyan does not have time on his side.
UFC Fight Night 72 will be headlined by a heavyweight feature fight pitting old school vs. new, as former division champion Frank Mir tangles with the streaking Todd Duffee. Elsewhere on the card, Tony Ferguson collides with Josh Thomson in lightweight action.
Expect more UFC Fight Night 72 fight announcements in the coming weeks.
