After a successful Bellator 136 event this past weekend (Fri., April 10, 2015), Bellator MMA brass is gearing up for their next event in Temecula, California at the Pechanga Resort and Casino on May 15th.
Just about a month removed from the event, Bellator officials learned the card would be just a bit thinner due to a pregnancy pulling UFC veteran Alexis Dufresne from her scheduled debut against Arlene Blencowe. Bloody Elbow was first to report the story.
Dufresne was cut by UFC after dropping two straight decisions in very underwhelming performances. In her last fight, "Sneaky Zebra" was found to be far too easy to hit as Marion Reneau completely outclassed her on the feet.
As if that was not bad enough, the jiu-jitsu ace missed the 135 pound bantamweight limit both times she stepped on the UFC scales, all but assuring she would be released by the promotion.
When Bellator MMA announced they would be starting a women's featherweight division, one of the first fighters they signed was Dufresne. At only 24 years old, Dufresne can take some time off, and potentially return to mixed martial arts (MMA) next year.
