Just when it seemed Ultimate Fighting Championship's (UFC) latest iteration of UFC on FOX would go on unscathed next weekend (April 18, 2015) at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, the co-main event middleweight clash between Ronaldo Souza and Yoel Romero has once again been canceled.
This time "Soldier of God" pulled out of the bout after suffering a torn meniscus in training, according to MMA Fighting. UFC officials have yet to confirm the injury, so it is unknown whether or not Souza will remain on the UFC on FOX 15 event against a short notice opponent.
"Jacare" and Romero were set to battle initially at UFC 184 to determine the next 185-pound title challenger, but the fight was postponed when Souza fell ill with pneumonia.
Now that the fight has been scrapped twice, do UFC brass avoid matching them up for a third time?
More importantly, Luke Rockhold and Lyoto Machida -- who battle in the evening's main event -- will now likely be fighting in a No. 1 contender bout to face the winner of Chris Weidman vs Vitor Belfort at UFC 187 in May.
Silver lining?
