Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is making hay while the sun shines, broadcasting UFC Fight Night 63 on FOX Sports 1 this morning (Sat., April 4, 2015) at 11 a.m. ET (main card 1 p.m.) from inside Patriot Center in Fairfax, Virginia.

That's where a pair of former featherweight No. 1 contenders in the form of Chad Mendes and Ricardo Lamas will hook 'em up in a fight to stay relevant in the 145-pound title chase. In addition, Al Iaquinta and Jorge Masvidal will bang it out in the lightweight division to make their case for a top-five opponent.

And that's just the tip of the proverbial iceberg.

145 lbs.: Chad Mendes vs. Ricardo Lamas

Round 1: Both men looking for kicks early. BIG uppercut from Lamas draws a nod from Mendes. Good low kicks from both men. One minute in. Lamas wheel kick falls short. Lamas maintaining range well so far. More kicks from Ricardo. As I say that, Mendes destroys him with a counter right, Mendes unloading with punches. Lamas makes it back to his feet, gets knocked down again. Lamas somehow survives and gets up, only to fall yet again. More  and more punches from Mendes as Lamas flops around. Lamas drops his head and Mendes signals to the referee that it's over. Brutal win for the Alpha Male product.

Final result: Mendes def. Lamas by TKO (punches)

155 lbs.: Al Iaquinta vs. Jorge Masvidal

Round 1: Iaquinta checks a low kick. Iaquinta answers the series of leg kicks with one of his own. One minute in. MIaquinta tries a single-leg, can't get it. Iaquinta tries to go high as they continue trading low kicks. Body kick by Iaquinta, then a side kick. Flying knee from Masvidal connects, Iaquinta catches it but can't use it. Good left hooks from Masvidal. Two minutes in. Al catches a leg kick and lands a right straight. Masvidal pumping the jab and lead left hook to good effect. Two minutes to go.

Low kick from Al connects. Right hand just misses. Masvidal answers with a bigger leg kick. Al to the body. Iaquinta fakes a takedown. Spinning back kick from Masvidal lands to the gut. One minute to go. Masvidal wheel kick blocked, but a four-punch combo rattles Iaquinta. Al shoots in, gets stuffed, and winds up on the bottom. Iaquinta latches onto a heel hook, but Masvidal gets out and immediately hurts him again as they stand. Iaquinta hits the ground and Masvidal pounds away, but can't get the finish. 10-9 Masvidal.

Round 2: Iaquinta bleeding from beneath his right eye. Iaquinta front kick falls short. Nothing big lands in the first minute. Check hook from MAsvidal, who's staying active with that jab. Al to the body. Masvidal body kick. Two minutes in. Masvidal is hooking very well off the jab, landing and pivoting away every time Iaquinta advances. Masvidal looking for a knee, eating a few leg kicks. Good 1-2 by Iaquinta. Al tries a single-leg, lands a right hand after dropping it. Two minutes to go.

Lead right by Al, body kick from Masvidal. Axe kick misses for Jorge. Brief slip from Al, Masvidal lands a right cross. Iaquinta can't get the single-leg. One minute in. Masvidal lands a right after checking a low kick. Masvidal low kick, Al answers. Al looks for a single-leg, again can't get it. 10-9 Masvidal.

Round 3: Iaquinta continuing to focus on low kicks. Iaquinta catches a knee attempt, eats a hard body kick. Masvidal left hook, Iaquinta low kick. One minute in. Iaquinta counters a leg kick with a right hand. Masvidal staying active with the jab and hook. Al to the body. Masvidal taunts after avoiding a right hand. Check hook and body kick by Jorge. Iaquinta witha pair of leg kicks. Two minutes in. 1-2 to the body from Iaquinta. Low kick lands for him. More jabs from Jorge. Check hook once again.

Two minutes to go. Counter left off an Iaquinta Superman punch. Masvidal head kick blocked. Iaquinta wants Masvidal to stop retreating, blasts him with a right hand. Al attempts a flying scissor sweep, can't get it. 1-2 from Al as Masvidal swipes with the lead hand. Another hard right from Al. One minute to go. Nice body kick from Masvidal, 1-2-3 from Al in response. Al fakes a takedown. Low kick lands for him. Again. Al in full pursuit, eats a right hand. Masvidal circles away at the bell. 10-9 Iaquinta.

Round 1: Chiesa moving forward. Left hook from Clarke, who takes him to the fence. Clarke looking for a single-leg, both men land hooks on the exit. Clarke again puts him on the fence. One minute in. Chiesa gets out, then wades into the clinch and throws Clarke down into side control. Clarke spins to his feet and takes Chiesa to the cage. Two minutes in. Chiesa reverses and hits another throw. Clarke counters with a single-leg attempt, which he drops after both return to their feet. BIG 3-2 by Chiesa and Clarke's hurt. Chiesa pursuing with punches, tries a sacrifice throw but can't complete it. Things slow back down on the fence. Two minutes to go.

They jockey for position on the fence. Chiesa hits an outside trip when Clarke tries a knee and quickly takes the back, dropping punches. Chiesa gets the body triangle and applies a nasty neck crank, which Clarke escapes. One minute to go. Chiesa still looking for the choke. Chiesa switches to an armbar, regains the back. Clarke defends the choke until the bell. 10-9 Chiesa.

Round 2: Clarke lands some leg kicks to start the round. Chiesa wades into the clinch, gets pressed against the fence. Foot stomps from Clarke. Clarke looking to get in on a leg. One minute in. The ref breaks them up when no takedown is forthcoming. Chiesa head kick blocked, Clarke left hook lands. Nice right hand from Chiesa as he moves into the clinch. Chiesa hits the same trip off a knee, immediately getting the body triangle. Two minutes in. Chiesa landing hammerfists and elbows. Two minutes to go.

Chiesa still working from Clarke's back. Clarke gets to his feet, Chiesa attached. One minute to go. Clarke returns to the ground. Round ends there. 10-9 Chiesa.

Round 3: Clarke now on the advance. Teep from the Canadian, then some low kicks and a Superman punch. Left hook by Clarke, Chiesa with a left straight. One minute in. Both land with their lead hands. Clarke body kick. Chesa straight left. Chesa lands a left, eats a combo. Hard left hook from Clarke, then an uppercut. Two minutes in. Clesa right hook gets Clarke's attention, then a 3-2. Both men content to trade punches inside. Flying knee lands for Chiesa, then a 3-2. Counter left by Clarke. Two minutes to go.

Another counter left lands for him, followed by a 1-2. Stiff jab. More close-range exchanges. Chiesa's landing fewer, but better punches. Nice straight left from him. Another. Hard right hook as Clarke wades in; Clarke lands a left hook of his own. One minute to go. Good body kicks by Chiesa, then a big left cross. Wheel kick attempt, after which they clinch up and fight for takedowns until the bell. 10-9 Chiesa.

Final result: Chiesa def. Clarke by unanimous decision

135 lbs.: Milana Dudieva vs. Julianna Pena

Round 1: Pena wading forward, winging haymakers. Dudieva changes levels and nearly takes her down in response, but can't finish it and gets pressed against the cage. Dudieva hits a throw, taking Pena down against the fence. One minute in. Pena with one butterfly hook. Pena rolls through, shoots in, and takes Dudieva down, landing in side control. Pena moves rirectly into mount. Pena postures up, dropping punches and elbows. Two minutes in. Pena dropping a continuous stream of shots, though nothing huge. Double-handed strikes now. Dudieva is just defending, not advancing. Two minutes to go.

More elbows by Pena. Dudieva gives up her back and Pena goes to work looking for the choke. She takes mount again and continues pounding away. This needs to be stopped. A clean elbow finally forces the ref into action.

Final result: Pena def. Dudieva by TKO (strikes)

145 lbs.: Clay Guida vs. Robbie Peralta

Round 1: They begin by trading leg kicks and falling short with punches. Lots of movement, as usual. Good low kick by Peralta. Guida shoots in off a low kick, taking Peralta to the cage. One minute in. Guida lifts him, carries him away from the fence, and slams him down, landing in side control. Peralta scoots to the cage and gets back to his feet, Guida still attached. Two minutes in. High crotch slam puts Peralta on his back once again. Guida on top in half guard, doing his Guida thing. Guida looking to take the back, has one hook on. Two minutes to go.

Peralta working to scramble up, gets dragged right back down. One minute to go. Guida with the seatbelt grip from behind. Guida puts a hook in, can't drag him down before the round ends. 10-9 Guida.

Round 2: Guida shoots in within ten seconds, completing the takedown into guard. Peralta makes his way to the fence. He's using it to try to stand, does so. One minute in. Guida looking for a single-leg. Two minutes in. Guida still working for the takedown. The ref breaks them up as Guida looks to hoist him up. Peralta leg kick, Guida shoots in, taking him to the fence. Guida's bleeding from something. Two minutes to go.

Peralta peels him off, lands a pair of hard shots before Guida shoots back in. The referee breaks them up. One minute to go. Peralta whiffing on some bombs. Guida shoots in one more time before the bell. 10-9 Guida.

Round 3: Close-range exchanges, no real contact. Guida lands a glancing head kick. Counter uppercut from Peralta, Guida body shots. One minute in. Guida head kick blocked. Guida changes levels and takes him down on the fence. Peralta working back to his feet, gets carried away from the fence and slammed to the mat. Peralta looking for a kimura from bottom half guard. He lets it go, working towards the fence. Two minutes in. Guida works to mount, squeezing an arm-triangle. Peralta regains half guard, but Guida is still cranking. Guida gets to side control, but Peralta gets his head free and regains guard. Now half. Two minutes to go.

Peralta holding Guida close. Guida passes to half guard. Peralta rolls and gets to one knee against the fence. Back to his feet, Guida looking to change levels. Elbows by Robbie. One minute to go. Guida working for a single leg. Guida completes another takedown with thirty seconds to go, landing in side control. Peralta rolls, gives up the front headlock before the end o the fight. 10-9 Guida.

155 lbs.: Diego Ferreira vs. Dustin Poirier

Round 1: They start with slugging. Poirier lands a couple of right hooks before Ferreira shoots in. Ferreira manages to flip him over, but can't establish on the ground and ties up on the cage. One minute in. Poirier reverses position, lands an uppercut inside. Ferreira with a left on the break. Poirier 3-2. Good right hook as they trade at close range. Ferreira with an uppercut. Low kick hits groin. Poirier leg kick on the restart, Ferriera with a right hand as he moves into the clinch. Two minutes in. Knee to the body before Poirier reverses. They separate. Coutner right from Ferreira, Poirier lands acom bination. Left cross from Poirier, overhand right from Ferreira. HARD straight left puts Ferreira on his back. He scrambles up and looks for a sacrifice through. Poirier rolls through into top position and lets him up. Ninety seconds to go.

Ferreira on the advance, firing punches, but gets melted by a right uppercut. Poirier pouring it on and Ferreira eventually goes limp.

Final result: Poirier def. Ferreira by KO (punches)

135 lbs.: Liz Carmouche vs. Lauren Murphy

Round 1: Liz slips on a low kick, turns it into a takedown attempt. They tie up in the clinch. Murphy looks for a trip, can't get it. Murphy takes her to the fence, changes levels as she eats elbows form Liz. One minute in. Carmouche defending the takedown well. Knees to the body from Murphy, hammerfests from Carmouche. Liz looks for a head-and-arm throw, briefly gives up the rear waistlock in the process. Two minutes in. The referee eventually breaks them up. Murphy on the advance. Inside low kick from her, teep form Liz. Two minutes to go.

Lots of feinting, not much action. Knee and right hand form Liz. One minute to go. Low kick and right hand from Liz. Murphy clinches. Knees to the leg from Murphy. She changes levels and completes the takedown in the waning seconds. 10- 9 Carmouche.

Round 2: Carmouche front kick to the body. Carmouche circling  on the fence, Murphy not committing. Carmouche tries a spinning kick and sprawls on a takedown. One minute in. Carmouche lands a knee, shrugs off some trip attempts as Murphy gets to her feet. Browne elbows from Liz. Two minutes in. The ref elects to separate them with just over two minutes to go.

Low kicks and right hand by Carmouche. Carmouche tries a cartwheel kick, Murphy ties up against the cage. One minute to go. Murphy manages to finish the takedown, landing in half guard. Carmouche gets to butterfly guard, then full guard. Carmouche works to high guard until the bell. 10-9 Carmouche.

Round 3: No real contact early. Murphy low kick. Overhand right from Carmouche, who shoots in and takes Murphy down near the fence. One minute in. Murphy scoots to the cage, getting to a seated position. Murphy landing elbows and working to her feet. Two minutes in. Murphy gets to her feet and gets the bodylock, pushing Liz against the cage. She works towards the rear waistlock, can't drag her down. Two minutes to go.

Carmouche lands a head-and-arm throw. Murphy nearly takes the back, settles for the clinch as they stand. Browne elbows by Carmouche. Liz nearly hits the switch, winds up on the ground. One minute to go. Murphy nearly takes the back again as Liz stands, Carmouche avoids it but remains clinched. Carmouche hits a throw into side control, where she stays until the end. 10-9 Carmouche.

Final result: Carmouche def. Murphy by unanimous decision

155 lbs.: Gray Maynard vs. Alexander Yakovlev

Round 1: Both men looking for right hands early. Maynard connects after doubling it up. Yakovlev catches him coming in with a powerful takedown. Yakovlev on top in half guard. Maynard scrambles up with an underhook. One minute in. Maynard nearly gets Yakovlev down, settles for pressing him against the cage. Maynard gets him down to one knee. Two minutes in. The ref splits them up soon after. Lead right connects for Gray, then a right hook. Yakovlev lands a body kick. Gray fakes a knee-tap. Left hook lands for him, two minutes to go.

Gray lands a pair of right hands, eats a body kick. Yakovlev is stuffed on a takedown. Maynard sweeps his foot out and briefly has the front headlock, taking him to the fence. Yakovlev reverses briefly before they return to the center. One minute to go. Maynard to the body. Yakovlev clinches, can't keep it for long. They trade front kicks to the body. Yakovlev ties up before the bell. 10-9 Maynard.

Round 2: Yakovlev head kick blocked. Maynard rips to the body. Low kick by the Russitan. Maynard completes a double-leg. Yakovlev on his seat, looking to scoot free. One minute go go. He manages to stand, so MAynard takes him to the fence. Knees to the body from Maynard. Yakovlev manages to make space. Yakovlev head kick blocked. Two minutes to go. Gray with a front kick to the body. Two minutes in. Maynard steps in with a right hook. Yakovlev just misses with a knee. Yakovlev cracks him with a left uppercut inside. Two minutes to go.

Right hand from Gray, then a single-leg he can't complete. Yakovlev drops Maynard with a straight left, but Gray latches onto a leg. Maynard working desperately for a takedown as Yakovlev lays on the punishment. Yakovlev sprawls and works towards the back. One minute to go. Maynard back to his feet, Yakovlev landing punches. Maynard goes to his back, using a tight overhook to control posture. Maynard goes for a takedown at the bell. 10-9 Yakovlev.

Round 3: Yakovlev opens with another straight left, then both land hooks. Yakovlev sprawls on a double-leg. Gray shoots in again, gets him down against the cage. Yakovlev works to his feet, still clinched. One minute in. They separate. Lead right from Maynard, hooks from Yakobleb. Gray stuffed again and Yakovlev nearly hits an ankle pick. Two minutes to go. Maynard takes Yakovlev to the fence. He lands a right hook on the exit. Yakovlev straight left prompts a failed takedown attempt. Good counter combo by Yakovlev, Maynard takes him to the cage. Two minutes to go.

They separate soon. Straight left from the Russian, Gray answers. Lead right lands for him. Yakovlev ducks a left hook and takes Maynard down. Maynard looking for butterfly hooks, gives up half guard. One minute to go. Yakovlev dropping punches and elbows, ends the round on top. 10-9 Yakovlev.

Final result: Yakovlev def. Maynard by unanimous decision

265 lbs.: Shamil Abdurahimov vs. Timothy Johnson

Round 1: Johnson on the front foot. Shamil catches a kick, can't use it. Straight right, 3-2 from Shamil. Johnson wades into the clinch, Shamil takes the dominant position on the fence. One minute in. Johnson makes space. Straight right form Shamil. Johnson tries to clinch, is rebuffed. Two-punch combo by Shamil. Johnson falling short with his punches, but clinches. Shamil reverses. Two minutes in. Shamil grabs the fence over and over, prompting the referee to take a point. They restart in the ceonter. Spinning kick falls short for the Russian, right hand lands for Johnson. Stiff right from Shamil. Johnson clinches, tries to wrangle Shamil down. So far unsuccessful. Two minutes to go.

Johnson kneeing the thigh. Shamil reverses and they separate. Inside low kick by the Russian, straight left by Johnson.  Shamil catches a kick and briefly spins Johnson down. One minute to go. Johnson clinches, connects with an uppercut before they split. Straight left connects for Johnson. Johnson shoots in and completes a takedown into half guard. He hops right to mount, postures up, and begins dropping heavy punches. Abdurahimov is not defending himself to the ref's liking and this one is over.

Final result: Johnson def. Abdurahimov by TKO (punches)

185 lbs.: Ron Stallings vs. Justin Jones

Round 1: Jones on the attack early on. Good body kick from Stallings. Jones takes him to the cage after whiffing on some haymakers. Stallings works his way free and they return to the center. Stallings hurts him with a body kick and starts pouring it on. Jones is hurt but firing back. Jones manages to tie up, change levels and put him on his back against the fence. Stallings working towards a guillotine. It's tight and Jones rolls to escape, scrambling back to his feet. Two minutes in. Back against the fence. They trade knees to the body in the clinch. Jones separates, can't connect on a flurry. Two minutes to go.

Jones shoots in once again, holding him on the cage. Knees to the thigh by Jones. One minute to go. They separate and Jones steps right back in, eating a couple knees on the way to the fence. He lands some hammerfists to the thigh until the bell. 10-9 Stallings.

Round 2: Jones wading forward, eats a counter right. Left hook lands for him as he takes Stallings right back to the cage. Jones looking to change levels. Stallings defending the takedown well. One minute in. The referee separates them. Stallings connects with a counter left and body kick soon after the restart. Jones ties up, eats a knee to the body before they split. Jones clinches, Stallings takes dominant position on the fence. Two minutes in. Jones reverses briefly before they return to the center. Straight left by Stallings connects, head kick blocked. He sprawls on a shot and they're on the fence again. Two minutes to go.

Jones completes the double-leg near the fence, inside Stallings' guard. Short ground-and-pound from him as Stallings works to control his posture. One minute to go. Jones postures up and stands to throw, dives back in. Stallings looks for a kimura until the bell. 10-9 Stallings.

Round 3: Stallings opens with a body kick, avoiding Jones' punches. Counter right connects. Jones shoots in, gets sprawled on and walks Stallings to the cage. Jones makes a little distance to wing some punches, then changes levels. One minute in. Stallings defending with over-unders. The ref elects to split them up. Jones shoots off a Stallings leg kick, is sprawled on again and cracked with a right as he stands. Jones doggedly pursues the clinch in the face of punches and manages to tie up. Two minutes in. Jones ducks a head kick and shoots, can't complete it. Stallings now unloading on Jones near the fence. Jones ties up once more. Two minutes to go.

Jones looking for a single-leg. He can't get it before the ref separates them. Jones lands a right after being denied the clinch. Stallings lands another good body kick and some punches in bunches. One minute to go. Stallings gets the Thai plum but gets taken to the fence. Jones attempts a high-crotch, can't get it. Jones separates, punches, shoots again unsuccessfully. Stallings hits him with hammerfists to the body until the bell. 10-9 Stallings.

Final result: Stallings def. Jones by unanimous decision
