Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) could have a new face in the crowded welterweight division by the end of the year, as WWE import CM Punk -- who was also considering a debut at middleweight -- is losing enough weight in training camp to consider a drop to 170 pounds.
In addition, the mixed martial arts (MMA) rookie, who signed with the world's largest combat sports promotion last December, is expected to meet with UFC officials in July to discuss his pending debut. And in case you're wondering what it's like to go from WWE to UFC, Punk and Co. are going to show you.
From Wrestling Inc:
It appears Punk is filming a documentary, according to reader Ju Ruiz, who braved the cold to meet Punk. It's worth noting that a sign was posted in the building that said fans agreed to be used in a documentary by taking part in the event. A camera crew was filming Punk and another was interviewing fans waiting in line.
Countdown to CM Punk!
A move down to welterweight may put a monkey wrench in these plans, but it's still way too early to tell when Punk -- real name Phil Brooks -- will enter the Octagon for the very first time. Until then, he'll have to sharpen his skills in Roufusport "scrimmage" fights (like this one).
