Report: Carlos Condit vs Thiago Alves targeted for UFC Fight Night 67 in May

"The Natural Born Killer" could be returning in just two months!

Pat Lovell-USA TODAY Sports

When rumors began swirling last month that former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) interim welterweight champ Carlos Condit would be returning from his knee surgery this past March to take on resurgent contender Thiago Alves sometime in the early Summer, mixed martial arts (MMA) fans were understandably excited.

With a May 30, 2015 date scheduled for UFC Fight Night 67, Steven Marrocco of MMA Junkie is reporting that UFC officials are in fact targeting "The Natural Born Killer" to take on "The Pitbull" in what would likely be the evening's main event.

While Condit previously noted he would love to rematch Nick Diaz in his return, the Stockton hero's failed drug test at UFC 183 will have him on the shelf for the time being, opening up the opportunity for Alves.

Condit (29-8) has been out of commission ever since his leg gave out on him against Tyron Woodley at UFC 171. After a arduous rehabilitation process, the Greg Jackson's product is seemingly ready to make his highly anticipated return to the welterweight division.

As for Alves (21-9), "The Pitbull" himself has dealt with a myriad of injuries over the last several years, but the former No. 1 contender has won back-to-back fights over Jordan Mein and Seth Baczynski since returning to the cage.

UFC brass has yet to officially announce the match-up, but with Condit posting earlier today on Facebook that he "should have a fight announcement this week," it seems all but certain that he will be facing off against Alves in May.

If this bout is in fact a done deal, who are you taking in this battle of former No. 1 contenders?
